Today we received a visit from about twenty users of the Casals d'Avis in Parets del Vallès who were able to learn about two research projects, led by their main researchers. The TV3 program 'Els matins' has made a live connection to the CEMBS facilities where part of the visit has taken place. On the set of the program they have interviewed the director of Research and Innovation, Lluís Blanch.
The TV3 Marathon celebrates 25 years, a quarter of a century in which more than 700 medical research projects have been launched. Now, the Foundation wants to show how the money raised is invested and opens the doors of leading centers so that citizens can see which projects fund their donations. One of the centers chosen was Parc Taulí and today we received the first of three guided tours that will take place at our facilities.
The citizens we received today visited the facilities of the Center for Simulation-Based Medical Education (CEMBS) where the director of the Pulmonology Service, Eduard Monsó, briefly explained the importance of these scholarships for research. The following projects were presented below:
- "Early neurocognitive stimulation in critically ill patients with acquired acute brain damage" scholarship winner at the 2010 Marathon dedicated to acquired spinal cord and brain injuries. The presentation will be given by Sol Fernández and Marc Turon, members of the research team of the project. A video has been projected and a demonstration with a simulated patient has been made in a simulation box attached to the room.
- "New technologies as non-invasive tools for the prognosis / diagnosis of gastric cancer" scholarship to La Marató 2013 dedicated to cancer. The presentation was given by Sergio Lario, a member of the research team of the project.
Afterwards, a visit was made to the I3PT Research Laboratory and its equipment, where the group works, and finally to the UDIAT Research Laboratory where the PCR equipment acquired thanks to La Marathon, and where Helicobacter pylori crops are grown.
Visitors were very grateful for the visit and satisfied with the explanations of our professionals, as well as very collaborating during the live connection with the TV3 program 'Els matins'. For his part, the director of Research and Innovation at Parc Taulí, Lluís Blanch, was interviewed live on the same program, together with the director of the Marathon Foundation, Lluís Bernabé.
It should be noted that throughout the different editions of La Marató, Parc Taulí has received funding for 10 research projects for a global amount of more than 1.200.000 euros.
