Yesterday, the Taulí Auditorium hosted the Taulí Scholarships, which are awarded annually by the Fundació Parc Taulí (FPT), with the aim of promoting the development of research projects by professionals from the Parc Taulí Health Corporation.

The event was chaired by the Mayor of Sabadell, Juli Fernàndez, the Rector of the UAB, Margarita Arboix, the President of the Parc Taulí Health Corporation, Modesto Custodio, the President of the Fundació Parc Taulí, Francesc Gòdia, and the head of the HIV Unit at the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital in Badalona and director of the IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute, Bonaventura Clotet.

In his presentation, the president of Parc Taulí stressed that research is essential to prevent, diagnose and better treat diseases. Custodio highlighted the lines of research carried out by the institution's professionals, with 50 research groups carrying out "Research with quality and excellence in the framework of a sustainable innovative model".

The Rector of the UAB emphasized the role of research for our students and the importance of Scholarships in recognition of a job well done. Arboix will emphasize that “The UAB is committed to Parc Taulí. It is a commitment to territory, to credibility, and the UAB will help make this hospital a reference ”.

The cumulative endowment of the Taulí Scholarships since its creation is more than 1,6 million euros

The director of Research and Innovation of Parc Taulí, Lluís Blanch, took stock of these 18 years of the Taulí Scholarships, emphasizing that the funds allocated to the Taulí Scholarships are generated by research and innovation developed by the institution's own professionals. The endowment accumulated since its creation is more than 1,6 million euros. In this 18th edition, € 10.000 has been awarded in grants to support and encourage CSPT research and innovation. Blanch remarked that "We have all the elements to be recognized by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III."

The event also featured the testimony of two students who have participated in research projects, Sofia Gamucci and Rita Guillamon. Both expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside professionals from the institution. On the other hand, Marc Turón and Assumpta Caixàs, presented two scholarship projects in previous editions of the Taulí Scholarships. Turón explained the project ENRIC (Early Neurocognitive Rehabilitation in Intensive Care, and Caixàs the project 'Brain connectivity in Prader-Willi syndrome'.

In his keynote address on AIDS, Dr. Clotet remarked that the AIDS vaccine is a money problem and spoke of advances in treatments: "It is true that we have cards in our hands to give a major blow to cure AIDS, which is still a terrible pandemic. The best way to cure the disease is with immediate treatment. ".

Presentation of the winning projects of the program 'Step up al Taulí'

The Banco Sabadell Foundation and the Parc Taulí Research and Innovation Institute are promoting the first call for applications for the 'Step up yourself at the Taulí' program, aimed at healthcare professionals at Parc Taulí who are leading a research project. These are grants that make it possible for these researchers to be hired externally for a period of 12 months in order to be able to dedicate themselves to research in a more intensive way and to promote their projects.

The patron of the Fundació Parc Taulí and member of the Banco Sabadell Foundation, Francesc Casas, presented the winners of this first edition at the Taulí Scholarships. The winners in this first edition have been the director of the Pulmonology Service of the Hospital Sabadell, the Dr. Eduard Monsó, which leads the group of chronic lung diseases and microbiome, and the Dra. Case Box of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service, which leads the Prader-Willi obesity and syndrome group.
