The program of The Night of Science and Knowledge is presented in Sabadell 2017 150 150 Parc Taulí current affairs

The main event of the Sabadell Science Night will take place on 18 May in the Espai Cultura Auditorium of the Fundació Antiga Caixa Sabadell, with performances by the Cor Vèrtex and David Baró. The profits from this edition will go to a research project on new tools to improve the early diagnosis of colorectal cancer, led by Parc Taulí.

The press conference for the presentation of La Nit de la Ciència i el Coneixement in Sabadell 2017, an initiative of the Bosch i Cardellach Foundation, the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), Sabadell City Council, was held today at Parc Taulí. , the Fundació Parc Taulí (FPT), the Olga Torres Foundation (FOT) and the ESDI School of Design, to present a closer look at the research and knowledge generated in Sabadell. The main purpose is to highlight the relevance of science in people's lives and to encourage young people's interest in scientific careers.

The event was attended by the President of Parc Taulí, Modesto Custodio, the Vice-Rector of the UAB, Armand Sánchez, the Councilor for ICT of Sabadell City Council, Miquel Soler, the Director of the Bosch i Cardellach Foundation, Joan Brunet, the secretary of the Taulí of Trustees of the FOT, Jordi Carbonell, the head of the Research and Knowledge Transfer Unit of the ESDI, Eduardo Huerta and the director of the Oncology Service of the Parc Taulí, Eugeni Saigí.

This initiative also has the support of organizations, companies and citizen institutions that collaborate, either by organizing complementary activities or providing financial support. Of all the initiatives that are carried out, the main activity is the Science Night, which is organized in a large emblematic space of the city, and has relevant artistic and / or musical performances.

One of the goals pursued with Science Week and Night is to raise funds to be earmarked for specific research projects that are being carried out in our immediate environment. The project to which the profits obtained for all the organized activities are destined is chosen by the organizing commission, formed by representatives of each one of the six promoting organizations. Once elected, the project is promoted in order to get the maximum resources in order to help make it possible.

In the presentation ceremony, the President of the Parc Taulí, Modesto Custodio, thanked all the entities involved in the organization of the Science Night “Its commitment to research, innovation and teaching for the benefit of society. We want to continue making new editions of Science Night and get the city involved. ”. For his part, the Councilor for ICT, Miquel Soler, detailed the program for 18 May, with the planned actions, awards and scholarships that will be awarded and congratulated all the entities for the initiative.

The director of the Bosch i Cardellach Foundation, Joan Brunet, detailed the program of La Setmana i la Nit de la Ciència in Sabadell 2017: “Science will be discussed in Sabadell in May. The city has been able to identify an opportunity and the entities have been able to take advantage of it ", he stated. The Vice-Rector of the UAB, Armand Sánchez, highlighted the research grants that will be awarded, specifically to three projects funded by the European Union awarded to three young researchers who have developed their projects in new cancer research tools. For his part, the Secretary of the FOT, Jordi Carbonell, also presented the scholarships that his organization will deliver on 18 May.

The Science Night poster has been produced by the ESDI School of Design. Eduardo Huerta has highlighted the significance of his collaboration in this initiative for ESDI: "It is a validation of the city, in the sense that design is also doing research, we improve the quality of life of people in collaboration with other areas".

The event ended with the presentation of the project benefiting from the Night of Science, by Dr. Eugeni Saigí. The aim of the project, led by professionals from Parc Taulí, is the research of new tools to improve the early diagnosis of colorectal cancer.

The program of the Night of Science and Knowledge

The main event of La Nit de la Ciència will take place on Thursday 18 May, at 2/4 of 9 pm, in the Auditorium of the Espai Cultura of the Fundació Antiga Caixa Sabadell 1859. The event will be presented by journalist Xavier Andreu, and will have the performances of the Cor Vèrtex. Young Choir of the Pia School of Sabadell and the well-known mentalist David Baró.

Tickets will go on sale on paper, at a price of 15 euros, to the organizing entities and other collaborators. There will also be row 0 paper tickets, which will be made available at different points and entities in the city.

May, the month of Science and Knowledge

Throughout the month of May, various entities, companies and institutions in the city will support it by organizing other activities aimed at citizens, also for the benefit of the project (talks, conferences, family walks, discounts in establishments…).
To date, collaborators: Guild of Manufacturers, Academy of Fine Arts, Gas Museum, Academy of Medical Sciences of the Vallès Occidental, Astronomical Group, Cafès Científics Sabadell 2017, Cineclub, Catalan Institute of Paleontology Miquel Crusafont, Union Sabadell Hiker (UES), Ars Foundation, Sabadell Comerç Center. Over the next few weeks, the incorporation of new entities and companies is expected.

Recognitions and scholarships to be awarded

During the Science Night event, different prizes, scholarships and recognitions will be awarded to scientific activity, by the different organizing entities and others closely linked:

- Olga Torres Foundation. Award for outreach work on colorectal cancer. Endowment: 9.000 euros.

- UAB Scholarships. 3 postdoctoral contracts for the P-Sphere project of the European Union Cofund program.

- Taulí Scholarships. 2 research incentives for medical students.

- Fem + Mathematics Award in Sabadell 2017 edition. Award aimed at 2nd year ESO students in Sabadell. It is organized in collaboration with the ABEAM (Barcelona Association for the Study and Learning of Mathematics).

- Montserrat Miró Prize, 2016 edition. Prizes for research work in the 2nd year of Baccalaureate organized by the Bosch i Cardellach Foundation, Sabadell City Council and the Vallès Occidental Pedagogical Resource Center 1.
