The history of life through what we find under the stone of a river, the great extinctions of the past, GMOs and food, or transhumance in Catalonia, are the topics that will be presented and debated, from today, in the new edition of the scientific dissemination program "Cafès Científics. Sabadell, 2017", organized by eight institutions of the city dedicated to research and dissemination, and which work to promote knowledge of science and its results .
The Catalan Institute of Paleontology Miquel Crusafont (ICP), the Association for the Defense and Study of Nature (ADENC), the Astronomical Association of Sabadell, the Bosch Foundation and
Cardellach, the Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí, La Ruda friends of Can Deu for ecological agriculture, the Unió Excursionista de Sabadell (UES) and the Academy of Medical Sciences, start again this February the fifth edition of the program of Scientific Cafés in Sabadell. The success of previous editions and the desire to consolidate this cycle in the city has led the organizing entities to repeat the initiative one more year.
The aim of the Scientific Cafés is to offer citizens the opportunity to speak in a relaxed atmosphere and exchange opinions on scientific topics with a
reference expert. The space chosen for this conversation between science and society will be the bar of the Unió Excursionista premises on Carrer de la Salut. With a coffee, a glass of wine
or any other drink on hand, the spirit of this initiative is to foster scientific debate in the context of the challenges of today’s society and the individual interests of
assistants. Entertainment and rigor, debate and conversation: science in Sabadell.
From February to November, one Tuesday a month, at 7 pm, each of the organizing entities that do research in science, or that have as one of their objectives to favor
knowledge of science and its results, will initiate a conversation around a topical issue. The guest will briefly present the topic and ask attendees doubts, questions and controversies, so that everyone can learn, reflect and debate.
The program "Cafès Científics. Sabadell, 2017" begins today Tuesday, February 21 with the theme "Under the stone of a river you can find the tree of life", by Cesc Múrria, PhD in biology and researcher in the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences, within the research group Freshwater Ecology and Management. Cesc will talk about macroinvertebrates, small animals (mosquito larvae, flies, dragonflies, etc.) that live in the river, and that often go unnoticed, each of them has adapted to the changing environmental conditions of our planet throughout its history, and are a sample of the tree of life.
