Both the refurbishment of the Gran Via building and the construction of a multipurpose hospital space to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic and the post-pandemic are planned. The modernization works will be carried out in the Gran Via Front building and will increase the capacity of the emergency rooms, the surgical block and the structural beds of the ICU. The new multipurpose building will be located on one side of Santa Fe and will increase the number of critical, semi-critical and acute beds.

The Vice President of the Government, Pere Aragonés, the Minister of Health, Alba Vergés, the director of the Catalan Health Service, Adrià Comella, and the Mayor of Sabadell, Marta Farrés, have presented this morning in a telematic press conference the project of investments that the Catalan Health Service will carry out immediately in the Parc Taulí with an agreement with Sabadell City Council.

The project includes, on the one hand, the expansion of the care capacity of the building with the fixed structural growth in critical beds - from 17 to 48 -, the expansion of the current surgical block - from 10 operating rooms to 16 - and the growth of the Emergency Service. On the other hand, it also contemplates the new construction of a new multipurpose building to respond to both the current need for care at COVID-19 and future needs, as it can be used depending on the time: emergencies, conventional hospitalization , day hospital and others.

This new space will have a total of 105 beds. There will be an open ground floor, as a possible reserve of future space for emergencies, a multipurpose first floor with 35 critical and semi-critical beds and hospitalization and two more floors with a total of 70 beds of short emergency stay .

The director of CatSalut, Adrià Comella, has detailed that around 40 million euros will be allocated to this project (excluding the amount of equipment and systems). In a breakdown, 20 million for the project of the new multipurpose space health in 2021 and a second phase of 20 million between 2022 and 2024. Specifically, 10 million for the construction of the Gran Via front and 10 million for emergencies .
