Early childhood is a critical time in the acquisition of healthy habits that can affect health throughout our lives. Newcomers from less developed countries are at risk of acquiring eating habits typical of our society which are usually not the most suitable.
From the primary care area, priority is given to the implementation of community activities focused on health promotion, through group activities and educational workshops. In collaboration with the socio-educational association Esquitx located in the neighborhood of Can Rull, an activity was carried out aimed at improving nutrition and oral hygiene in children aged 1-3 years.
The activity took place in the association's premises and a group of mothers from different cultures and with a low socio-economic level participated. Our nutritionist Antonia Humanes and oral hygienist Mireia Planas led a workshop where they discussed healthy eating and oral hygiene adapted to early childhood and how it can be affected by family habits.
An attempt was made to convey in a practical way which foods are most suitable for all members of the household and the effects they can have on our health. In the same way, the importance of maintaining correct oral hygiene from the appearance of the first tooth was explained. The promotion of multidisciplinary activities is one of the most relevant objectives of the new figures in disease prevention and health promotion.
