Sabadell Gent Gran creates a virtual community with its residents and relatives

Sabadell Senior Citizens has launched a new initiative among its residents to bring them closer to new technologies and social networks. Through the Famileo application, the center has created a virtual community between residents, their relatives and professionals to establish faster and more direct communication.

The director of Sabadell Gent Gran, Sonia Mariscal, explained that "this tool aims to be an open window for residents who cannot be with their relatives. Now, they can be part of their daily life. And also vice versa. It is an open window for family members so they can participate in all the activities we do at the center. They are virtual open doors".

All residents, with prior authorization, have a personal profile in the application where their relatives upload photos and messages. The center also uploads photos of their day-to-day life. There is also a generic space where you can report on all the activities that are carried out. Residents can access and consult their space, through a tablet, or through a personalized printed magazine where they can see the photos and messages sent to them by their relatives.

This new initiative has been very well received, both by residents and family members, "they feel much more involved in the experiences that happen outside, like those we have inside the center". In addition, "it has helped us improve interaction and participation in the activities we do. Now they want everything posted on their profile", said Sonia Mariscal.

If this initiative continues to be well received, the intention of the management of Sabadell Gent Gran is to expand it to adapt it to the profile of the new users of the center or the protected apartments. "In a few years, the new residents will have their own tablets and can be the ones to hang the photos on their wall themselves”, said Mariscal.

It is a service center aimed at meeting the needs of the elderly. This attention is provided at the center's facilities (Residence, Day Centre, Supervised Apartments), and/or at the user's own address, in the latter case through the services of Taulí Aprop. 

Sabadell Gent Gran has 130 residence places, 40 in a day center with integral assistance in the activities of daily life, favoring the recovery and maintenance of the maximum degree of personal and social autonomy.

It also includes 38 supervised apartments with services designed for independent or low-dependency elderly people. The homes are adapted and can be for one or two people, with 24-hour teleassistance support and a warning bell in the night area and in the toilet. As well as the coordination of the medical agenda overlooking the Parc Taulí. People who live in the apartments can also enjoy the center's activities: rehabilitation, workshops, cognitive stimulation...
